FAQ’s

How do you become a parapsychologist?

Becoming a parapsychologist typically starts with studying psychology or a related behavioural science, followed by specialised learning in parapsychology through accredited short courses, postgraduate modules, or independent research. Many professionals build credibility by focusing on research methods, statistics, ethics, and critical analysis, then contributing to academic studies, publications, or research organisations that examine anomalous experiences scientifically.

Can you study parapsychology in the UK?

Yes, parapsychology can be studied in the UK, although it is usually offered as part of psychology, consciousness studies, or research-based programmes rather than as a standalone undergraduate degree. Several universities and private providers offer modules, short courses, or online learning options that explore paranormal phenomena using scientific and psychological frameworks.

Is parapsychology still studied?

Parapsychology is still studied, mainly within academic research centres and psychology-related disciplines that focus on consciousness, perception, and human belief systems. While it remains controversial, ongoing interest in anomalous experiences, placebo effects, and cognitive bias keeps the field relevant in research, media studies, and cultural analysis.

What can I do with a parapsychology degree?

A parapsychology degree or specialised qualification can support careers in research assistance, academic writing, psychology support roles, media research, or cultural studies. Many learners also apply this knowledge to complementary fields such as behavioural science, counselling support pathways, publishing, or education, where understanding belief, perception, and human cognition is valuable.

Is 40 too old to train as a psychologist?

No, 40 is not too old to train as a psychologist in the UK, as psychology welcomes mature learners with diverse life backgrounds. Universities and training providers regularly accept career changers, and transferable skills such as communication, empathy, and analytical thinking often strengthen applications for psychology-related study routes.

What is the major problem facing parapsychology?

The major problem facing parapsychology is the difficulty of producing consistently replicable evidence under controlled scientific conditions. Methodological challenges, scepticism within mainstream science, and the influence of bias or fraud make it harder for findings to gain widespread academic acceptance.
